Welcome to the online gathering place of Young Pioneers Media. We're a Philadelphia-based company that builds inspirational and instructional multimedia content for creative entrepreneurs, unique small business owners, freelancers and the otherwise self-employed.

As you've probably noticed, our online presence is still very much in its earliest stage of expansion. But not to worry: You'll see that we've given you a sneak peak at a number of our most promising in-development projects, and we encourage you to have a look around. And by the way, if you're a small-business owner or a would-be entrepreneur yourself - or if you'd simply like to learn a bit more about what it is we do all day, and what we have in store for the future - simply send a email - including your name and 'reply to' email address - to our Marketing Department. You'll be immediately subscribed to The Briefing - a news report that will occasionally come loaded with special offers and newsletter-only exclusive content.

Utne Reader nominated us for an Independent Press Award, our product flew off the shelves of independent bookstores all over the country, and along the way, we changed a few lives. Which is exactly why we have plans to create travel content once again. We're currently enjoying our time brainstorming new ideas for the journal, so if you happen to be something of an international travel enthusiast, keep an eye on PioneersofTravel.com.   New YPM Projects Take Shape :: Two New Site Launches Scheduled for the End of April
  
  Yes, that's right. It's been a busy time yet again for Young Pioneers Media (and especially our designers), and we have TWO new sites ready to hit the web by month's end - 3 to Tango and Moon Pittsburgh. Both sites are sure to please all of our readers and followers (well, maybe). Wondering what all the fuss is about? We thought you might be. Just read on to learn more.
  
  3 to Tango (Coming April 21)
  Dan's newest hit column for Tango, Marriage without Monogamy, has already started to take on a life of its own and has ruffled more than a few feathers along the way. As a result of the column's success, Dan, along with his fiance Carrie, have decided to launch a new site and blog based on Dan's original work. More than just snippets of our own relationship and suggestions, our new daily blog will feature how-to's on everything from having the "big talk" to orchestrating a (successful) three-some, tips & tricks from the pro's (experts & otherwise), fun & sexy online resources for members, answers to your questions, our new line of merchandise, news about the column and our upcoming book, and a whole lot more…
  
  Moon Pittsburgh (Coming April 28)
  Moon Pittsburgh is back once again, and YPM has taken Dan's original guidebook and turned it into something of an online magazine. Once the new site is launched, readers will not only be able to purchase discounted, author-signed copies of the book and other Pittsburgh-themed goods, they'll also be able to access a directory of all businesses and establishments listed in the guide, learn more about local neighborhoods, read articles about other locals making headlines, test their own knowledge of the "Burgh", and even preview full pages, highlights, and sidebars from the book. The site has been especially tailored for both locals, fans of the city, and visitors alike, and in doing so we've also developed an online bulletin board, The Steel City Forum, where users can post ideas for the guide's next edition, ask locals about where to go and what to do, post listings to local events and current happenings, sell their own wares, and rant, rave, or otherwise post whatever else is on their mind.

  Attention Curtis Sliwa Fans :: Want to Learn a Little More About Our Marriage without Monogamy?
  
  For anyone who hasn't already heard the news, Carrie and I were interviewed by Curtis Sliwa this morning on NewsTalkRadio WABC 77AM in New York City. According to his assistant, Sliwa has been devoting a decent amount of air time to the topic of monogamy over the past week or so. The news hook, of course, is the Eliot Spitzer scandal and the recent news surrounding the former New Jersey Governor James McGreevey. Apparently Sliwa was interested in talking with a relatively more proletariat couple involved in an open relationship, and thanks to my Marriage Without Monogamy column, which is published every two weeks at TangoMag.com, they managed to track me down…

  In Bookstores Now! :: Lonely Planet (Now Part of BBC Worldwide) Releases the 14th Edition of Southeast Asia on a Shoestring
  
  This one's a really big deal for me: Southeast Asia on a Shoestring is the second Lonely Planet guide I've worked on (the first was Turkey's 10th edition), and the book seems to be available in most major bookstores by now. My contribution was the guide's entire Thailand chapter; I spent ten weeks traveling the country while verifying and updating the previous edition's content. Unfortunately, my package of complimentary author copies hasn't arrived quite yet, so I haven't actually had a chance to read anything other than the author bios in the front of the book. But I can say that the design is beautiful and the cover looks fantastic, and that I'm certainly looking forward to seeing actual travelers using the guide when I visit the Philippines for Lonely Planet later on this summer…

  Now on News Stands Everywhere :: My Article on New York's Hearts Challenger Hits the Current Issue of Paste…
  
  My article about the punk-rock ice cream truck business known as Hearts Challenger can be found on page 16 of the April 2008 issue of Paste; look for Gnarls Barkley on the cover. The company's founder, a rather comely young woman by the name of Leyla Safai, is a Young Pioneer in the truest sense of the word. She commands a fleet of four or five ice cream trucks these days, and she has incredibly ambitious plans in place for the company's future, including brick-and-mortar stores in New York and L.A.

  Travels with Lonely Planet Column :: Featured in Toronto Sun, Houston Chronical, Salt Lake Tribune, Eureka Reporter, and More…
  
  A few months ago, after wrapping up my ten-week reporting trip in Thailand, where I was doing research for the 14th edition of Lonely Planet's Southeast Asia on a Shoestring guide, I filed my very first article for LP's syndicated column service. Officially known as Travels with Lonely Planet, the column is edited at LP's Oakland office by Jay Cooke, who was very recently promoted to Commissioning Editor for all of Latin American and (I think) the Caribbean. (Congratulations Jay!) At any rate, after editing the essays, Jay then passes them off to King Features Syndicate, which is the very same organization responsible for distributing newspaper columns like "Hints from Heloise" and "Ask Dr Ruth", and comic strips like "Dennis the Menace" and "Beetle Bailey".

  Dan's New Tango Column, "Marriage Without Monogamy" is Off to a Promising Start :: Column Makes Headlines at The Huffington Post, Em & Lo's DailyBedPost.com, and More…
  
  I still haven't managed to figure out exactly why this is happening, but both installments of the Marriage Without Monogamy column I'm writing for Tango Magazine have now been picked up by The Huffington Post. As I've mentioned in this space before, the first essay inspired a very unexpected wave of ugly comments, and so of course I'm crossing my fingers with the hope that this will happen again. After all, lots of readers plus lots of controversy almost always equals a happy editor, and even more so when you're writing on the sex and relationships beat.…

  Dan Hits the Road… Again :: Heading to the Phillipines this July for New Lonely Planet Assignment
  
  Thrilling news on the travel journalism front: I was offered my third Lonely Planet guidebook assignment just a few weeks ago. With about four other LP authors, I'll be updating a portion of LP's 10th Philippines Travel Guide. My dates aren't actually set in stone just yet, although it looks like I'll probably be out of the country for the majority of the month of May. As usual, I imagine I'll be doing at least a small bit of freelance foreign correspondence and travel writing on the side, and that's something I'm very much looking forward to. And assuming the stars align just so, and assuming I can manage to get my reporting taken care of on time, I'll absolutely be planning a post-research trip.…
